Kampong K’dey bridge has been built since 1186, less than 100 meters long, the sphere is about 14 meters wide and completely built of the beehive, without binder. The architecture is similar to Roman domes built in Europe. On each bridgehead, there is a statue of the serpent god Naga with seven heads, worshiped by the people, and the whole bridge also has the shape of the body of this serpent god.
From Kampong K’dey bridge, you are just 45 minutes away from Siem Reap. The city was named after King Anong Chanriechievy, the Khmer empire that defeated the Siamese (present-day Siam) under King Ayutthaya in the 12th century. The origin of the name Siem Reap means “victory over the Siamese.” In Khmer, Siem is Siamese, and Reap is victory.
The asphalted roads in the center of Siem Reap are widely opened with the two sides full of luxury hotels, restaurants which are standing close to each other. But the fast development of a potential tourist city can’t make Siem Reap lose its inherent beauty.
