From Kampong K’dey bridge, you are just 45 minutes away from Siem Reap. The city was named after King Anong Chanriechievy, the Khmer empire that defeated the Siamese (present-day Siam) under King Ayutthaya in the 12th century. The origin of the name Siem Reap means “victory over the Siamese.” In Khmer, Siem is Siamese, and Reap is victory.

The asphalted roads in the center of Siem Reap are widely opened with the two sides full of luxury hotels, restaurants which are standing close to each other. But the fast development of a potential tourist city can’t make Siem Reap lose its inherent beauty. In order to help the ancient town retain the harmony with the ancient temple architecture here, most of the hotels are in Khmer style with red roof tile, traditional carvings,… Moreover, the buildings are not built higher than 65m of the highest temple in the Angkor complex.
