A short escape to Mekong Delta

Mekong Delta plays an important role in the tourism development of Vietnam because of its attractive landscapes and various and unique culture. Mekong Delta Tours which can give you a chance to travel by canals, contemplate rice paddy fields,… are ideal things for all tourists who want to find the peaceful atmosphere and approach the simple life in the countryside to do. And taking a short escape to Mekong Delta from the dynamic Ho Chi Minh city is the most fancy thing that you should do once making tours to Vietnam.

So, I’m gonna tell you some great suggestions that you can experience in your Mekong Delta tours.

Travel by small canals in Mekong Delta

Right at the time you arrived in My Tho, you can be transferred into a Wooden Motor Boat, then you can come to the spectacular Unicorn Island. On the boat ride, starting your trip with the history of the regions and steers, you can explore an island with lush tropical gardens. Next, visiting sample tropical fruit before continuing to another island in the Mekong Delta, where your tour guide will share stories of the area’s cottage industry, coconut candy. Spending time gracing a coconut candy factory, where you’ll be able to hear the history of the industry and watch how this confection is made.

As you continue your itinerary along the river, you can take the opportunity to stop at local villages and experience more of the traditional lifestyles, culture, and customs of the people who call the Delta their home. You also visit traditional handicraft villages, tropical fruits gardens and enjoy the typical folk music in Southern Vietnam, in stark contrast to the bustling streets of Ho Chi Minh City.

As your journey ends, you will return to My Tho by motorized boat and then travel to Can Tho and have an overnight in Can Tho city.

The beauty of Can Tho city

That’s for the first day, not so hasty but still full of new experience, right!

After an overnight in Can Tho city (you can choose between staying in a hotel, a motel or even experiencing a homestay, to me, I prefer the homestay because it can give us a lot more wonderful experience than just staying in a hotel), waking up early in the morning to discover the fantastic atmosphere of the floating markets, buy some souvenirs and even have your breakfast there, right on the water surface, with a tasty bowl of Hu Tieu, a cup of Vietnamese coffee, and try some tropical fresh fruits,… is definitely something you won’t be able to ignore when coming to Mekong Delta.

You will have a great opportunity to visit two largest floating markets in Mekong such as Cai Be floating market and Cai Rang floating market. However, you have lacked time so you should choose one of two markets to go. A high recommendation for you is visiting Cai Rang floating market to be convenient for stopping at Monkey Bridge.

The activities in Cai Rang floating market

In a floating market, the waterway becomes a maze of hundreds of boats packed with local fruits such as mango, bananas, papaya, pineapple, and even smuggled goods. The large sized anchored boats create meandering lanes for smaller ones to weave through. All create a bustling and joyful atmosphere that can attract any travelers.

As you can see, not only the unique experience, but also Mekong Delta’s food and homestay are elements that attract tourists the most to Mekong Delta tours.

So what are you waiting for but not making Mekong delta tours?

I believe it will be one of the fanciest time in your life.
