7 gorgeous destinations prove Laos is worth a visit

Laos tourism is perhaps the least-known place on the Southeast Asian tourist map, but this place is definitely not a boring place for a memorable trip.

1. Vang Vieng

Located about 150km from Vientiane capital of Laos, the small town of Vang Vieng lies in the vastness of the green mountains. Known as the peaceful countryside with fresh, cool climate and also the famous tourist destination of Laos. There are no beautiful buildings, no modern resorts or large lined streets … so every year, Vang Vieng attracts a huge number of tourists.

With the advantage of the ideal terrain – the back of the mountain side overlooking the river, Vang Vieng town is known as a peaceful countryside on the Nam Song River. This little town has hidden in its wildness and beautiful nature.

2. Lake Khoun Kong Leng

The lake is located 30 km north of Thakhaek town, Khammuane province, with blue and crystal clear waters. Lake water coming from the underground river has been filtered through the limestone beds lying around the mountains. Near the viaduct, travelers are allowed to bathe, swim.

3. Kuang Si Waterfall

Kuang Si is a complex of three cascades, of which the main waterfall is about 60m high with streams flowing down from above to create a white foam that flushes out the mist to create an impressive setting. As one of the most attractive tourist attractions of the country, coming here, visitors won’t only be able to visit the forest, but also climb and bath in the waterfall or lake. In the middle of the fresh air of Kuang Si, visitors also hear the birds singing together with the melodious sound of melancholy.

4. Field of jars

Located 30 km from the town of Phon Sa Vanh, the administrative center of Xieng Khouang province, the field is situated on a large tens of hectares. However, due to being affected by landmines left over after the end of the Indochina War, only a part of the field was revealed to visitors. Found by scientists more than a century ago, but now the birth and use of these jars is still a mystery.

5. Tham Khoun Xe cave

Tham Khoun Xe, also known as Xe Bang Fai, is a large cave located in the Khammouane province of central Laos. The cave was discovered by a group of French explorers in 1905.

According to the expedition’s report, the Tham Khoun Cave is an underground section of Xe Bang Fai River, which is one of the largest caves in the world with huge caves 120 meters high and 200 meters wide with many impressive geological structures.

In the cave there is a well-developed lush forest at the entrance of the cave, the green color of the forest contrasts with the white, the orange of the terraced fields, creating a unique array of colors on limestone walls.

6. Si Phan Don

Si Phan Don in Lao means 4,000 islands, a tourist destination that any visitor want to visit. The Mekong River is the largest in this section with nearly 14 km and about 4,000 small islands, which are called Con, Si Phan Don.

Si Pha Don

Come here, you will definitely want to spend all of your 24 hours exploring on a four-wheeler or rowing boat down the line and admire the rare Irrawaddy pink dolphin, then relax by the hammock and enjoy Lao famous beer.

7. Wat Phu

Champasak’s most famous cultural project is the sacred temple of Wat Phu – World Cultural Heritage. About 40 kilometers south of Pakse, along the banks of the Mekong, Wat Phu is a stone colony and is an architectural marvel built over the centuries from the 9th to the 13th centuries. It is one of the most sacred shrines of the ancient dynasties on this land.

Wat Phu

Wat Phu is a Hindu-style architecture, worshiping Shiva and this architecture is considered close to the Angkor Wat World Cultural Heritage of neighboring Cambodia.
